Meet the Recipients of PRSA Puget Sound’s 2025 Annual Scholarships
PRSA Puget Sound is committed to supporting the next generation of public relations professionals through two annual scholarships. Every year, the Sally Heet Memorial Scholarship and the Horace and Susie Revels Cayton Scholarship each award $4,000 to outstanding WA college students studying PR, communications, and related fields.
In 2025, our chapter received numerous impressive applications from students across the state. After careful evaluation, our Scholarship Committee selected Sophie Cadran and Azaria Purdy as this year's award recipients. Read below to learn about these rising stars in PR.
Sophie Cadran, Sally Heet Memorial Scholarship Award Winner
Sophie Cadran is a student at Western Washington University majoring in Journalism and Public Relations, with a minor in Human Rights. She will begin her senior year in the fall of 2025. Beyond the classroom, Sophie serves as President of the WWU PRSSA Chapter, Managing Editor of Klipsun Magazine, and contributes as a freelance writer for a local nonprofit newsroom. This summer, she is studying health communication and food culture in Italy to broaden her global perspective. Sophie’s career goal is to work in public relations within the holistic health industry, representing mission-driven clients who value authenticity and meaningful connection with their communities. You can connect with Sophie through her LinkedIn.
“I’m incredibly honored and thankful for the support from the PRSA Puget Sound Chapter," said Cadran. "Throughout my college journey, I’ve sought out new opportunities and environments to grow both personally and professionally. This award not only helps make those experiences possible, but also inspires me to keep pushing forward as I work toward becoming a public relations professional who leads with authenticity, curiosity and purpose.”
Azaria Purdy, Horace and Susie Revels Cayton Scholarship Award Winner
Azaria Purdy is a rising senior attending Eastern Washington University, where she is majoring in Public Relations. In addition to her studies, she balances being a full time student and student-athlete as she is currently on the Track and Field team. Azaria has built public relations experience through internships, one of those being with the NAACP Spokane Branch, managing their social media and working with third parties to help plan events. After graduation, Azaria hopes to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in marketing and working in sports.
“I am so honored to have received the Horace and Susie Revels Cayton Scholarship," said Purdy. "This will give me the opportunity to continue studying Public Relations and pursue my goal of getting my master’s degree. I am so appreciative of PRSA’s support and resources and without it I would not be nearly as connected with the Public Relations community."
